The doom mongers have started, backed I must admit by the likes of Woolworths, USC, MFI all calling time over the festive period. Yet is it all doom and gloom out there. I think 2009 will be a very tough year, yet it is during the toughest of times that the true strength of companies with vision will stand out. Those who have the foresight to see the eventual upside will start to invest, take advantage of lower costs and build and invest for the future. The other area they need to look at in greater depth is ensuring that their business is on a sound governance and controlled footing. This has been the real issue of the last few years and why we are where we are. If robust controls had been in place - we would not be sitting with RBS being owned 58% by the state. Could you have imagined it.
