AYRSHIRE CHAMBER AND SEC of STATE for SCOTLAND
This week as a member of the Ayrshire Chamber I attended a forum whose speaker was the Rt. Hon Jim Murphy MP, Secretary of State for Scotland, hosted by Sandra Osborne MP and Brian Donohoe MP. This was a great opportunity to hear direct from Government the thoughts on what is concerning Ayrshire business during this economic downturn. Some of the key messages were that by bringing forward Year 3 Capital spend into Year 2 the hope is to re-energise the Scottish econ my. I had planned to ask on this "given the record of government project spend, how will we ensure that the money is controlled and spent wisely - i.e. not a rushed job". Sadly time ran out for me. Many questions were asked and many replies given - some micro, some macro - although you do get a sense that the government is trying to do something - with new ideas arising weekly. Further information on my attendance will appear in later bloggs.
